  “National Center for AIDS/STD Control and Prevention, Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention” was officially established in July 1998 when called as “National Center for HIV/AIDS Prevention and Control, Ministry of Health” which was affiliated to Chinese Academy of Preventive Medicine, as a professional institution for HIV/AIDS prevention and control approved by the State Council. On 23rd January 2002, the “National Center for HIV/AIDS Prevention and Control, Ministry of Health” was renamed as the “National Center for AIDS/STD Control and Prevention”, which is abbreviated to NCAIDS/STD, a unit is subordinate to the “Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention”, after the “Chinese Academy of Preventive Medicine” was renamed as the “Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention”.

 

 

  

 

Responsibilities and Tasks of NCAIDS/STD

 

NCAIDS/STD main responsibilities are as follows:
  
  1. To assist Ministry of Health to organize and develop the policies and regulations for HIV/AIDS prevention and control and provide scientific evidences.
  2. To participate in the development, implementation and evaluation of the national action plan of HIV/AIDS prevention and control, to organize for developing the technical strategies and measures and provide technical guidance and consultation;
  3. To provide technical assistance and quality control for national HIV/AIDS surveillance and laboratory testing, to organize for developing the technical criteria, norms and protocols, and to monitor and supervise the implementation;
  4. To organize the surveys, analysis and projections for the AIDS epidemic in China, to manage the national AIDS epidemic reporting management, to collect and exchange information on AIDS prevention and control domestically and internationally;
  5. To provide technical guidance on national professional staff training for HIV/AIDS prevention and control, and training relate to other relevant sector for implementing awareness and education, to organize for compiling the training and education materials for HIV/AIDS prevention and control;
  6. To organize and conduct the research and application concerning the strategies of HIV/AIDS prevention and control, epidemiology, health education and intervention, treatment and care, AIDS etiology, immunology and laboratory technologies;
  7. To organize and implement AIDS cooperation and exchange programs between the country government, multilateral and bilateral international agencies. To participate for implementation and development of the international HIV/AIDS response strategies and planning activities;
  8. To undertake the routine work of State Council AIDS Working Committee Office (SCAWCO), to undertake the organizing and arranging for activities which are relate to policy consultation, experience exchanging by Ministry of Health, and other tasks assigned by the higher authorities.
