Hollande: France pledges €1.08 billion to Global Fund
According to the report of Le Figaro on June 26, French President Hollande announced on the evening of June 26 that France will continue contributing €1.08 billion (approximately RMB 7.864 billion) to the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria for the three-year period beginning in 2017, i.e. €360 million per year.
At the closing ceremony of the 18th Music Festival & Solidays, French Elysée Palace said in a statement that this contribution demonstrates the strong commitment of France in the fight against pandemics and to strengthen health systems. As indicated by the statement of the Elysée Palace, France is the second largest contributor to the Global Fund and also the first largest financial supporter to UNITAID.
"I hope that on September 16 in Montreal the Fund will achieve its goal of mobilizing $13 billion for the next three years in order to save 8 million lives and prevent 300 million new infections," said Hollande called on the international community to enhance mobilization so that on September 16 in Montreal the Fund will achieve its goal for the next three years in order to save millions of lives.
